OO: Original Organic in Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach describes itself as “where the sun sets on San Diego.”

Known more familiarly by locals as O.B., Ocean Beach is where you’ll find much of the laid-back SoCal lifestyle San Diego is famous for. The area has also been compared to the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco, due to its copious amount of hippies. (You can frequently find them at Ocean Beach People’s Organic Food Co-op, a co-op that’s been around since 1971, if they’re not at the beach.)

Ocean Beach is, in short, the place to be!

Every year the neighborhood hosts several big events including:

You can even play a special Ocean Beach themed version of Monopoly called Ocean Beach-opoly, complete with groovy peace sign, a palm tree, and beachy flip flop and surfboard in place of the typical Monopoly pieces:

OBopoly

Fun Fact: Residents of OB refer to themselves as OBceans. Except for the wild green parrots, which locals refer to as “the O.B. Air Force.”

OB People’s Organic Food Co-op is located at 4765 Voltaire Street in Ocean Beach.

  1. Ooh, what kinds of pieces do you get with the New Zealand version? I was perplexed by the palm tree in the OB version, as it doesn’t look much like a palm tree in that image. 🙂

What say you, gentle reader?
